Nowy Świat-Uniwersytet is the deepest station on the Warsaw Metro, with the platform about 23 metres below the surface. It opened on 8 March 2015. The depth follows from the alignment running beneath the Warsaw escarpment, just before the tunnel drops under the Vistula. The station covers close to 16,800 square metres and its exits open onto Krakowskie Przedmieście and Nowy Świat — the shortest metro route to the University of Warsaw and the Royal Route.
